The Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development (EJS Centre) has announced the third cohort of accomplished African women to join its flagship programme, the Amuje Initiative.
The initiative was launched by former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in 2020, with the aim of inspiring and preparing women to excel and play roles in the highest echelons of public leadership, and importantly bring other women together.
The third group is made up of 12 women leaders from 10 countries on the African continent. These include current government ministers, members of parliament, senior government advisors and activists on issues ranging from economic development to gender equality and youth empowerment.
Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf said:
“I am incredibly proud to welcome the third cohort of Amazai Leaders to the EJS Center. These 12 women have already demonstrated staggering success during their careers and have the ambition and commitment to enact real change as public leaders.
They follow in the footsteps of our first and second comrades who continue to go from strength to strength and will undoubtedly serve as sisters and supporters as our new leaders begin their Amuse journey.
These talented women will build on the foundation laid by the first two groups of AMUJA leaders and will be supported by an elite group of AMUJA coaches, including former heads of state and leaders of international institutions, who will provide insight and guidance drawn from their invaluable experience. We do. under public leadership.
Ole Dibba-Vadda, executive director of the Interim EJS Center, said:
“There is no program like the Amuje Initiative, and it fills me with hope that another 12 talented African women will join the sisterhood to continue their growth as public leaders.
As an Amujee leader myself, I am well aware of the rich and joyous journey our third party is about to embark on. Her first and second peer sisters are ready and waiting to welcome and support her on her own unique leadership journey.
