“Did you know that you can hatch Trader Joza’s eggs?” Alice Bowie asks her viewers under @aliceintkland’s handle. “I bought these fertilized eggs to test them.”

In her video, Bowie noted that she had been incubating eggs for her students in class and decided to include the nine eggs she bought from Trader Joe’s with other farm-fresh eggs. Trader Joe’s eggs she marked “TD” to distinguish them.

“To be precise, we waited 21 days,” she said behind the scenes on TikTok. “We checked them along the way until they finally hatched. Three of our fluffy yellow chicks came from Trader Joe’s.”

She reported that only a third of them hatched, but considered this a positive result, as she did not know where they came from, how long they were in the refrigerator, and how they were handled during transportation.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Bowie and Trader Joe’s for comment.

EGGS REPLACED FOR BAKING, COOKING AND EATING IN THE MIDDLE OF RISING PRICES

Bowie films the entire process, from marking and placing the eggs in the incubator to the hatching of yellow chicks from the same eggs, which the video suggests are the same.

“Can you believe these guys came out of the box?” she asked her audience. Responses ranged from disgust to disbelief.

“This SHOULD be a joke,” one person commented.

“Now I will never eat eggs again,” said another.

“I used to hide eggs from the grocery store under my grandmother sleep hoping they hatch,” another viewer said.

“Judging by most of these comments, this video may have just resolved the egg shortage crisis,” another viewer said.

In the next video, Bowie responds to commentators from the perspective of one of his cubs.

“Some of you seem to think my life is a joke,” says the voice-over. “So now you are forcing me to come here and defend myself. Yes, I did come out of Trader Joe’s egg.”

According to an article published by Michigan State University’s (MSU) Department of Agricultural Knowledge, hatching a grocery-store-bought egg is possible, but “generally impossible.”

“By studying chicken embryology, young people learn that in order for a chick to develop from an egg, it must be fertilized,” the article says. “Most of the eggs sold in grocery stores come from poultry farms and have not been fertilized. In fact, laying hens on most commercial farms have never even seen a rooster.”

In an emailed statement, Brittany, owner of The Homestead Trail in Indiana, addressed the YouTube video, which has been viewed more than 159,000 times.

“Yes, we did hatch a chicken out of Trader Joe’s egg!” she wrote in FOX Business. “As the egg industry shifts from battery cages to more humane methods such as pasture rearing and free-ranging on small family farms, it is becoming more likely that a rooster will be in a flock, which could result in inseminated the eggs will go into the box. .”

Brittany added that there is an active Facebook group called “Store Bought Eggs” that is dedicated to the incubation of various brands of eggs.”

Happy Egg Co. is another brand that many people have had success with,” she said. “The chances are low, but it’s still an interesting experiment.”
