(NewsNation) — China’s authorities Monday criticized President Joe Biden’s assertion that American forces would defend Taiwan if Beijing tries to invade as a violation of U.S. commitments concerning the self-ruled island, however gave no indication of attainable retaliation.

In an interview on CBS Information’ “60 Minutes” that aired Sunday, Biden stated “sure” when requested if “U.S. forces, U.S. women and men, would defend Taiwan within the occasion of a Chinese language invasion.”
