(NewsNation) — American Paul Whelan is serving a 16-year sentence in Russia, accused of spying, costs the U.S. calls politically motivated.

After weeks of silence, Whelan was lastly capable of contact his household Friday. There isn’t any reason he was lately transferred to a jail hospital, a transfer the Whelan household referred to as “extremely uncommon.”

Whelan’s brother David joined NewsNation’s “Prime” on Saturday to debate with anchor Natasha Zouves his brother’s imprisonment.
