Chatbots are computer programs designed to mimic people in online conversations. They are often used by customer service teams to automatically answer online inquiries, but are becoming more and more advanced. OpenAI was created by Elon Musk and owns a ChatGPT chatbot that can do everything from writing essays to debugging code.
Microsoft invested its first £808m into OpenAI in 2019, but ChatGPT’s popularity skyrocketed after it became free to use in November, with active users surpassing 1m in the first five days.
