Tom Asker on changing his story:

“If we are not happy with the story we are living, the key is to understand that we are not living the story. When we wake up each morning, what we are is the pure potential of the universe. Yes, we have knowledge. And we have a history. But that history is not us. This knowledge isn’t necessarily what the future is going to look like, it just informs the decisions we make. We’ve wired our brains in such a way that that story becomes a river that flows through us and it carries us so that someday we wake up and we say, ‘What happened? ? How did I get here? I do not remember it. I don’t remember being like this. What should I do?’ And this is what creates so many problems for people in this life and the hereafter. They probably change careers or lose their jobs. And then they have to say, ‘Okay, what am I now?’ You too were nothing before. You were only talking. You were running a company at this time. It doesn’t matter because you can do whatever you want to do.

Tom Asker on creating value:

“Value is not cost. It has all kinds of components. Aesthetic value, value of doing good, value of feeling better about yourself, your physical self, your social self. There’s a bundle of components to go into value Now, if that’s how you create value for the external, now you look internally and you say, what am I doing internally in these different functions within the company that I directly relate to that value Can the outside world see what I’m creating? You say, ‘These are the results we’re looking for.’ You make sure everybody understands it and you measure it and then you get out of their way and it doesn’t matter how.
